Common indoor air pollutants found in most homes

Airborne Particle Allergens

Particle allergens are always present in your home’s air. They can build up to unhealthy levels due to activities in the home, the presence of excessive sources, and heating & cooling system issues.
Sources: Pets, dirt on shoes, dust mites and other insects, fungi on/in walls or under carpets, air from the outside carrying pollen and molds into the home or workplace, burning candles, wood stoves, tobacco smoke.
Health Risk: Particle allergens are known to trigger asthma and allergy symptoms. At higher levels they can harm healthy adults by causing emphysema and diminished lung capacity. Children, the elderly, and pregnant women are more susceptible.

Organic Chemical Pollutants

Health Risk: Eye and respiratory tract irritation, headaches, dizziness, visual disorders, and memory impairment. Many organic compounds are known to cause cancer in animals; some are suspected of causing, or are known to cause, cancer in humans.
